    镀锌钢管以其良好的强度、刚度和抗冲击能力，一定的耐温、耐压能力，适中的价格，原材料易于获取且易于加工，因而在市政工程和建筑给排水方面被广泛的应用。但由于镀锌钢管因其在使用中易产生腐蚀、生锈、结垢，从而对水质造成严重的二次污染，使水质恶化，另一方面因锈蚀渗漏破坏了用户的居住及工作环境，并导致水资源的巨大浪费，这就迫切要求一种新型的绿色环保的替代产品出现。同时，由于镀锌钢管要消耗大量的钢材，浪费大量能量，为此进入九十年代，建设部下决心推广塑料及复合材料管材。
    在有机化学工业的发展推动下，在国家政策的支持下，管材迎来了它朝气蓬勃的更新换代时代，大批新型塑料管材及复合材料管材相继涌现。其中塑料管材主要有：硬聚氯乙烯（UPVC），交联聚乙烯管（PEX），聚乙烯管（PP-R、PP-C），高密度聚乙烯管（HDPE），氯化聚化聚乙烯管（CPVC）等。复合管材有铝塑复合管、涂塑钢管、钢塑复合管、塑复铜管等。
        新型管材与传统的管材相比具备优良的性能，在当今建筑给排水及市政工程方面发挥了巨大的作用，但是它们也有很多不足，这需要我们进一步完善它们的性能，不断开发新的产品，让新型管材更好的为我们社会主义建设服务。
